New York Safety Patrol is a not-for-profit organization operating within the confines of NYC. The goal of our volunteers is to make the city we live in a safer place. Volunteers participate in active street patrols on foot, and in unmarked vehicles and communicate via private 2 way radios.

New York Safety Patrol accepts volunteers who do not have a criminal record and are not members of a gang or racial hate group. In order to join New York Safety Patrol, applicants must be at least 21 years of age. New York Safety Patrol members are prohibited from carrying weapons. Many are trained in first aid and CPR, law, conflict resolution, communication, and basic self-defense. Members are paired up and follow the directions of a Patrol Supervisor. Our members respond to a wide array of issues ranging anywhere from House/Car Lock-Outs to actual crimes in progress. New York Safety Patrol maintains a close relationship with the NYPD and other law enforcement angencies as well as other volunteer patrol groups. The sharing of information and crime statisctics between us and the NYPD is necessary in order to identify crime patterns in specific areas so that we may focus our efforts in the ares that need it most.

To provide assistance in any emergency situation in a fast and efficient manner before and after the local police arrive. We are able to do so because our volunteers work and live in the community.

To actively patrol our streets in order to seek out and eradicate criminal activity in the areas which we operate.

To increase public awareness of the criminal activities and crime trends that are taking place within our communities.

To educate the community in methods of protecting their homes, businesses and personal property by using practical solutions.

To act as a bridge between the local police and the community.

To provide assistance in search and rescue efforts in cases of missing persons and disasters through our trained volunteers.

To help provide personnel, supplies, facilities, and other resources after a major disaster or emergency.

Procuring supplies and equipment for emergency operations.

Our purpose is to lower crime, and to raise the quality of life of the people in our communities.

New York Safety Patrol was originally founded in 1990 as Kensington Bensonhurst Security. At that time, we began patrolling on foot and in private vehicles & our patrols specifically targeted crime within the confines of the 66th & 70th precincts in Brooklyn South.

By 1991, we had grown in numbers and as such we widened our area of operations to neighboring precincts. When the need called for it, we operated in Manhattan, Queens & Staten Island as well. It wasn't long before Kensington Bensonhurst Security became K-Units Volunteer Patrol (KUVP), the "K" representing Kings County, NY. Back then our patch was totally different and our pocket & vehicle identification cards were still in Black & White. In 1996, our name changed once again to K-Units Safety Patrol and a completely redesigned patch was released as was our first color pocket & vehicle identification cards.
